Every day, hundreds of new AI tools are launched. "The ChatGPT killer!", "Create videos in seconds!", "Automate everything!".
As an entrepreneur, it can drive you crazy. You just want to know: what works? And what is a waste of my time?
In this article, we filter out the noise. We have tested dozens of tools and present you with the 7 tools that are indispensable for Dutch SMEs in 2025. No beta versions that crash, but tools that save you money or time today.
1. The "Second Brain": ChatGPT (or Claude)
Let’s start with the basics. You need a Large Language Model (LLM).
- Use for: Brainstorming, writing texts, drafting emails, summarizing contracts.
- Our choice: ChatGPT Plus (for most people) or Claude 3.5 Sonnet (if you do a lot of programming or write long texts).
- Why pay? The free versions are nice, but the paid versions (€20/month) are 10x smarter and faster. It’s the cheapest "intern" you will ever hire.
2. The Research King: Perplexity
Stop Googling. Seriously.
- Use for: Market research, fact-checking, analyzing competitors.
- Why: Google gives you 10 blue links full of ads. Perplexity gives you an *answer*. It reads those 10 websites for you and summarizes them, with citations.
- Practical example: "What are the rates for accountants in the Utrecht region?" Perplexity gives you an overview right away, while Google makes you click through 5 websites.
3. SEO & Discoverability: Ubersuggest
You want to be found, but SEO tools are often expensive and complex (Ahrefs quickly costs €100+/month).
- Use for: Keyword research, seeing what your competitors rank for.
- Our choice: Ubersuggest.
- Why: It’s affordable (often lifetime deals), available in Dutch, and understandable for non-SEO experts. You can see right away: "People search 500 times a month for 'AI consultancy', and the competition is low."
4. Image Generation: Ideogram (or Midjourney)
You need images for your website or LinkedIn. Stock photos are boring and impersonal.
- Use for: Unique images for blogs, presentations, and social media.
- Our choice: Ideogram (easier) or Midjourney (more beautiful).
- Why: Ideogram excels at text in images (something other tools struggle with). Type: "A poster with the text 'AI Event 2025'" and it looks sharp. Midjourney creates the most artistic images, but works via Discord (which is inconvenient).
5. Video Content: Opus Clip
You recorded a 30-minute webinar or podcast. No one watches that all the way through on LinkedIn.
- Use for: Automatically cutting long videos into viral "shorts" (for TikTok/Shorts/Reels).
- Our choice: Opus Clip.
- How it works: You upload your video link. AI watches the video, finds the 5 most interesting moments, cuts them out, adds subtitles, and gives them a viral score.
- Time savings: Hours of editing become 5 minutes of waiting.
6. LinkedIn & Outreach: Phantombuster
Want to find leads on LinkedIn without clicking all day?
- Use for: Automatically sending connection requests, scraping profiles, enriching data.
- Our choice: Phantombuster.
- Note: Use this wisely. Don’t spam. Use it to gather data so you can send *relevant* messages.
7. Content & Search Trends: AnswerThePublic
You want to blog, but about what?
- Use for: Seeing what people are *really* asking on Google.
- Our choice: AnswerThePublic.
- How it works: You type "heat pump" in. The tool shows a visual web of questions: "costs heat pump", "heat pump noise", "heat pump subsidy 2025". These are your blog topics.
Conclusion: Start with One
The pitfall is to try all these tools at once. Then you’re busy with *tools*, not with *work*.
Our advice:
- Do you already have ChatGPT Plus? If not, start there.
- Then choose one problem you want to solve.
- Too little time for research? -> Perplexity.
- Boring website images? -> Ideogram.
- No inspiration for content? -> AnswerThePublic.
AI is not a goal in itself. It’s a tool. Make sure you buy the right hammer for the nail you want to hit.
